The No. 9-ranked Louisville Cardinals’ remarkable season came to an untimely end in the first game of the NCAA Tournament on Thursday. They were defeated 89-75 by No. 9 Creighton.
But there is no time to sulk.
According to Pete Nakos of On3, Louisville is already looking ahead to Monday, March 24, when the spring transfer window opens, and plans to spend between $8 and $10 million to upgrade their squad.
Because they will lose their top three scorers — Chucky Hepburn, Terrence Edwards Jr., and Reyne Smith — they will have to work harder and cover more ground.
One candidate is Iowa transfer guard Brock Harding, who has reportedly narrowed his options to Louisville and five other teams. However, they will undoubtedly need to widen their scope, particularly if they intend to spend more than $10 million.
Under first-year head coach Pat Kelsey, Louisville experienced a tremendous turnaround in 2024. They concluded with a 27-7 record after going 8-24 the previous year, but they want more. The program is aiming for its first NCAA tournament victory since 2017 under Rick Pitino and its first Final Four berth since losing the NCAA Championship in 2013.
Lousiville will have until Tuesday, April 22 to overhaul their roster via the transfer portal, should they have the money (and willingness to spend).
