After meeting with the Vikings on Monday, former first-round cornerback Jeff Okudah has agreed to a one-year deal with the team, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter. Okudah most recently played for the Houston Texans, where he appeared in six games for a team that made it to the divisional round of the playoffs.
Vikings and CB Jeff Okudah reached an agreement today on a one-year contract, as confirmed by @UniSportsMgmt CEO Kevin Conner. At 26 years old, Okudah had several offers but chose to return to the NFC North with the Vikings, where he will play under defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
The 26-year-old Okudah was drafted by the Detroit Lions in 2020. He started six games and played in nine total as a rookie, recording 47 tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception. After an injury limited him to just one game in 2021, Okudah bounced back with 15 starts in 2022, finishing with a career-high 73 tackles, one interception returned for a touchdown, and seven pass breakups.
Before joining the Texans, Okudah played for the Atlanta Falcons in 2023, starting nine games and appearing in 13 total. He registered 44 tackles and three pass breakups.
The Vikings’ decision to sign Okudah is a low-cost move to strengthen their cornerback depth while giving the former high draft pick an opportunity to revitalize his career under Brian Flores. If Okudah performs well, the Vikings could benefit not only from his contributions as a rotational cornerback but potentially earn a compensatory draft pick if his play significantly improves in Minnesota.
