A new college football rumor suggests that Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers chose his legacy and an NFL career over a substantial NIL deal in his final year of eligibility.
After Texas’ loss to Ohio State in the college football playoffs semifinals, Ewers faced a significant decision. He could either return to Texas for another shot at a national championship or forgo his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.
Both choices had challenges. Many insiders expect freshman Arch Manning to become the starting QB in 2025. Additionally, while Ewers was once considered a potential first-round NFL pick, some analysts now predict he could be selected on Day 3 of the draft.
Rumors also swirled that Ewers might enter the transfer portal, where he would likely receive a lucrative NIL offer from another program. However, on Thursday, Chip Brown of Horns 247 revealed that Ewers had declined an $8 million NIL offer to transfer, choosing instead to move on and enter the 2025 NFL Draft, preserving his college football legacy at Texas.
Sources close to Ewers told Brown that NFL scouts expect him to be drafted between the late first round and early third round. If Ewers had transferred, the NIL deal would have paid him more in one year than he might earn over four years in the NFL. Despite this, his legacy at Texas was reportedly a priority, with his high school coach Riley Dodge stating that Ewers wanted to leave the program on a positive note.
