The Pittsburgh Steelers might look to the draft to meet their need for a quarterback for the next season.
Although a flier in a later round seems likely, the 2025 quarterback class looks somewhat poor and it is doubtful that they choose a quarterback.
Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports has long-standing coverage on the Steelers and recently discussed potential quarterbacks for the team for next season.
Cowherd is currently concentrating on Riley Leonard of Notre Dame, who guided the team to a College Football Playoffs Final appearance where they would subsequently lose to Ohio State.
Cowherd gave Leonard great compliments, likening him to a former Buckeye and Steelers quarterback in Justin Fields, supposedly re-signing with the Steelers this offseason.
“Also, Riley Leonard, keep your eye on Pittsburgh in the second, third rounds. A bit like Justin Fields,” Cowherd remarked. ” Athletic, young, huge, nice arm. Pittsburgh’s in the market, hence I believe he might be drafted as a quarterback.”
If the Steelers go with signing a free agency quarterback, I do not think they would take a quarterback that early. In a year with a quarterback class as thin as this one, the Steelers would be taking an extraordinary amount of risk on a quarterback with questionable potential. This is pretty unlike the Steelers draft and personnel strategy recently, thus it seems to hard to imagine they will do so.
The Steelers would be better served addressing areas of need in the earlier stages of the draft, especially wide receiver and tight end, and taking a free agent with experience but little flashiness to lead the offense at the quarterback position.
