The missed call on Luka Doncic in Game 4 enraged Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick. During the postgame news conference, Redick delivered a message on the game’s officiating while discussing the 113-116 loss.
“Let’s start by saying that Luka tripped. It was an obvious excursion. In reference to the missed foul call on Minnesota Timberwolves player Jaden McDaniels, Redick stated, “He doesn’t just fall on his own.”
“We observed it. He stumbles. Therefore, we ought to have been at the line for free throws. He was fouled, but that doesn’t justify why we lost.
Game 4 of the Lakers-Wolves series included a number of contentious foul decisions, including the play in question. The Lakers’ head coach made his feelings about the “missed” foul call on Doncic extremely apparent, as it appeared to reflect the nature of game refereeing.
It is clear from the action itself that McDaniels puts his foot down first. He may not have intended to trip Doncic, but the outcome is still quite obvious. Given the circumstances, Redick’s anger toward the officials seems sense.
The Lakers’ performance on both ends of the floor deteriorated severely in the fourth quarter. Minnesota’s defense limited the Purple and Gold to 19 points per game, and their individuals produced relatively little.
