The Jacksonville Jaguars selected Travis Hunter, the Colorado Buffaloes’ Heisman Trophy winner, with the second overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, making him the highest drafted cornerback and second-highest drafted wide receiver in NFL history.
Hunter is only the fourth top five pick in CU history, following Byron White (No. 4 to the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1938) and Michael Westbrook (No. 4 to the Washington Redskins in 1995), and he shares the highest draft pick in CU history with Bo Matthews (No. 2 overall to the San Diego Chargers in 1974).
Hunter became the most decorated player in college football history last year, capturing the Heisman Trophy, Walter Camp Award, and Player of the Year accolades from the Associated Press and Sporting News. He was also awarded the Paul Hornung Award (most versatile player) twice, as well as the Bednarik Award and Lott IMPACT Trophy for national defensive player of the year and the Biletnikoff Award for top receiver regardless of position.
Hunter concluded his CU career with 153 receptions for 1,989 yards and 20 touchdowns on offense, one rushing touchdown for a total of 21 points, and 67 tackles, seven interceptions, 16 pass breakups, and a forced fumble on defense. He played an incredible 2,625 snaps in two seasons despite missing nearly five games due to injury, topping the FBS in snaps in both 2023 and 24.
Shedeur Sanders sends powerful 7-word message ahead of NFL Draft
Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders posted a simple seven-word statement on social media only hours before the 2025 NFL Draft:
“I’m built for whatever today may bring,” Sanders wrote on his personal X account.
Sanders, once regarded as a surefire top pick, has recently dropped in mock drafts, placing him closer to the end of the first round — or possibly outside of the first round entirely.
The University of Colorado quarterback, on the other hand, appears undeterred, eager to make the most of whichever team selects him on Thursday night (or maybe Friday).
Sanders, 23, has spent the last two seasons at Colorado, starting 24 games and throwing 64 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. In 2024, he finished eighth in the Heisman Trophy voting, having completed 74% of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He scored four running touchdowns.
Sanders guided the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record and an Alamo Bowl participation. He won the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year Award as well as the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, which is presented to college football’s finest upperclassman quarterback.
Previous winners include NFL stars including Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels (2023), Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow (2019), and former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck (2011).
Early mock drafts projected Sanders to be in the top five, if not the top three. However, most recent mock drafts place Sanders in the bottom part of the first round, if not the second.
Sanders has been linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who own the 21st pick in the first round. However, if Pittsburgh does not pick Sanders, he might end up on a surprise club.
Whatever happens, Sanders, the son of NFL star and Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, is prepared. Whether his name is called on Thursday or Friday, he’ll join his new team and compete for the starting quarterback position.
The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET. The second and third rounds are on Friday, while the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh rounds are on Saturday.
