According to reports, Cole Gonzales has decided against playing for Oklahoma in 2025.
According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports/247Sports, the quarterback is returning to the transfer portal following a brief stint at OU.
Billy Gonzales, the wide receivers coach at Florida, is the father of Cole. About 40 miles south of the UF campus in Gainesville, Florida, he played for Trinity Catholic High School in Ocala.
The younger Gonzales attended FCS Western Carolina for the previous three seasons. On Christmas Day, he promised to transfer to Oklahoma. He still has one full season of eligibility left and one redshirt eligible for 2025 and beyond.
Gonzales has participated in 27 games over three seasons, according to his Western Carolina bio. After completing 66% of his throws for 2,803 yards and a 28–8 touchdown-to-interception ratio across 11 games, he was named the 2023 SoCon Player of the Year.
Gonzales only appeared in eight games in 2024. His average passing yards per game went from 254.8 to 317.9, but his TD-INT ratio was 12-7.
After a brief halt in Norman, Gonzales seems to be moving on, so we’ll see what happens next. The transfer portal’s spring undergraduate admissions window ends on April 25. After entering their name into the portal, players are able to transfer.
