The 2025 NASCAR GP Spain was a landmark weekend for Thomas Krasonis, marking a career-defining breakthrough for the Greek racer. After clinching a win in the EuroNASCAR 2 (OPEN) division on Saturday, Krasonis followed it up with a historic first-ever victory by a Greek driver in the premier EuroNASCAR PRO category on Sunday. Leading from pole, the PK Carsport driver delivered a flawless performance over the 18-lap race. With a podium finish on Saturday and Sunday’s triumph, Krasonis leaves Valencia as the early favorite in the championship standings.
An Emotional Victory
In Victory Lane, an overwhelmed Krasonis thanked his sponsors, family, friends, trainer, and the entire PK Carsport team: “This wouldn’t be possible without them. It’s been six years in the making, and in one weekend we’ve taken two wins. We shattered records here, and hopefully we’ll break even more with a title at the end of the season.”
His victory also earned him the Junior Trophy win, awarded to the top driver under 25, signaling a bright future for the 23-year-old. PK Carsport also celebrated a 1-2 finish, with reigning PRO champ Vittorio Ghirelli coming in second. Ghirelli was initially stuck behind Yvan Muller but managed to pass him mid-race, though he couldn’t close the five-second gap to Krasonis.
Podium Battles and Trophy Winners
Paul Jouffreau overcame a tough start and power issues to finish third overall and second in the Junior Trophy. Muller, after another strong defensive drive, had to settle for fourth. Sebastiaan Bleekemolen rounded out the top five and earned bonus points for most positions gained.
Liam Hezemans edged out Garrett Lowe for sixth and claimed the final Junior Trophy podium spot. Gianmarco Ercoli finished eighth after some early chaos involving Ulysse Delsaux’s retirement. Jack Davidson won a tight battle for ninth over Julien Rehberg.
Davit Kajaia secured the Challenger Trophy from 14th overall, narrowly avoiding a last-lap incident when Michael Bleekemolen spun just ahead of him. Claudio Cappelli, after multiple track limit penalties, dropped to second in the Challenger Trophy, while Max Lanza claimed third.
Championship Standings and What’s Next
With two impressive performances, Krasonis now leads both the overall and Junior Trophy standings with 75 points. Jouffreau trails by just one point, while Ghirelli sits third, seven points off the lead. Muller and Hezemans round out the top five, with the latter also third in Junior Trophy. Kajaia leads the Challenger Trophy, followed by Kenko Miura and Cappelli.
EuroNASCAR’s 2025 season kicked off in dramatic style in Spain, and the action will resume May 17–18 at Italy’s Autodromo Vallelunga, near Rome.
