When the Los Angeles Lakers traded Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Luka Doncic, the deal included a few other significant players who haven’t received as much attention.
One of those players is 33-year-old forward Maxi Kleber, who was traded to the Lakers alongside Doncic but has yet to play for his new team. Kleber, who has been sidelined since January 25 with a right foot fracture, could make his debut soon, with just seven games left in the regular season.
The Lakers are set to face the Golden State Warriors on Thursday, but Kleber is expected to receive an injury update after missing the last 29 games. On Wednesday, Kleber was spotted at practice, taking shots, and Lakers coach JJ Redick is expected to provide an update on his recovery timeline before Thursday’s game.
According to Dave McMenamin: “Maxi Kleber, who has been out with a right foot fracture since he was traded to LAL, gets up shots after Lakers practice. JJ Redick said the team would have an update on Kleber’s recovery timeline tomorrow.”
Through 34 games with the Mavericks this season, Kleber averaged 3.0 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, but he’s been a valuable player over his eight seasons in Dallas.
While Kleber is not expected to return on Thursday, the update on his recovery timeline could be crucial for the Lakers, especially given their current lack of depth in the frontcourt.
