Bubba Jennings and Jason Sasser will be inducted into the Texas Tech Men’s Basketball Ring of Honor, an exclusive distinction that now includes six members. Both players were multiple-time All-America honorees during their outstanding careers as Red Raiders, with achievements that remain some of the program’s finest.
They will join the inaugural class of Rick Bullock, Andre Emmett, Dub Malaise, and Jim Reed, who were enshrined in 2019. The ceremony will take place during next season on a date to be announced.
Jennings wrapped up his Texas Tech career with 1,760 points, ranking ninth all-time. He was named Southwest Conference Player of the Year and earned All-SWC First Team honors in his senior season, averaging 19.5 points per game. Additionally, he was an Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention, UPI All-America selection, and a two-time Academic All-America. Jennings also received the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Hall of Fame’s National Player of the Year Award for the best player under six feet tall. He was inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Fame in 1995 and still holds top spots in several program records, including fifth in made baskets (714) and fourth in free-throw percentage (85.1%).
A native of Clovis, New Mexico, Jennings played for the Red Raiders starting in 1980-81 and finished his career as a 117-game starter under coach Gerald Myers. He was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in the 1985 NBA Draft.
Sasser, a Dallas native, scored 2,102 points, ranking fourth in Texas Tech history, and averaged 17.7 points per game over his four-year career. He was inducted into the Texas Tech Hall of Fame in 2007 and earned Southwest Conference Player of the Year honors in his senior season after averaging 19.5 points per game. Sasser helped lead Tech to an 87-35 record, including a remarkable 30-2 season as a senior, earning them the Southwest Conference championship and an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. He was also a Consensus All-America and the program’s first Wooden Award Finalist.
During his career, Sasser recorded 34 double-doubles, including a career-high 36 points twice against TCU. He remains the program’s record holder for consecutive games in double figures (71). Additionally, he ranks second in career free throws made (534) and fourth in field goals (736). Sasser also played for the USA National Team at the FIBA World Championships and was drafted by the Sacramento Kings in the 1996 NBA Draft.
