Eddie George left Tennessee State to join Bowling Green earlier this month, and the university has announced the hiring of former NFL star Reggie Barlow as the 23rd head coach in program history. Following weeks of speculation and false reports linking former Titans coach Jeff Fisher to the position, the Tigers formally confirmed the hire on Sunday morning.
“Unbelievable! The opportunity to attend Tennessee State University, with its rich history, heritage, and legacy of exceptional athletes and coaches, is a true honor to follow in their footsteps,” Barlow said in a statement. “I am humbled, blessed, and really excited! Thank you to Director of Athletics Dr. Mikki Allen, President Tucker, and the student-athletes who have remained dedicated despite uncertainty. And, Big Blue, I am ready to get started! So, do you like football?
In a statement, Tennessee State Director of Athletics Mikki Allen expressed her pleasure at Reggie Barlow’s appointment.
“Reggie Barlow’s hiring as TSU’s head football coach demonstrates his commitment to the game of football and his profound desire to develop young athletes. “With a rich legacy as a player and coach, Barlow is poised to lead the TSU football program to new heights, establishing a culture of excellence and success that will benefit both the players and the university for years to come,” Allen stated.
