The Green Bay Packers may not be finished bolstering their wide receiver group just yet. After signing former Kansas City Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman earlier this week, the Packers now have a solid collection of pass-catchers, though none have emerged as a definitive No. 1 wide receiver. Although rumors surrounding big names like DK Metcalf and Davante Adams were prevalent early in free agency, the market has since thinned out of top-tier talent. As a result, Green Bay is reportedly turning its focus to the NFL Draft, where they made a significant move toward the top receiver in this year’s class.
According to ESPN’s Jordan Reid, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was the only GM present at a private workout conducted by Arizona’s standout receiver, Tetairoa McMillan. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 219 pounds, McMillan is ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect, which could require the Packers to trade up from their current 24th overall pick to secure him. McMillan ran a 40-yard dash in the 4.52-4.56 range, aligning with scouts’ expectations for the 21-year-old.
A 2023 and 2024 All-American, McMillan posted impressive numbers, with 90 catches for 1,406 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023, followed by 84 catches for 1,319 yards and 8 touchdowns in 2024. He holds Arizona’s all-time record for receiving yards (3,423) despite playing only three seasons and set a single-game receiving yards record with 304 yards against New Mexico in 2024. Known for his ability to perform both outside and in multiple spots, McMillan has drawn NFL comparisons to players like Mike Evans and Tee Higgins.
If McMillan can reach his potential, he could provide the Packers with the dominant wide receiver they’ve lacked since Davante Adams’ departure. Since 2022, Green Bay has invested heavily in receivers, drafting seven, including second-round picks on Christian Watson and Jayden Reed. However, no receiver has yet surpassed 1,000 yards in a season, and Watson is expected to miss time this year due to an ACL injury. With Watson in the final year of his rookie contract, this season could be crucial for his future with the team.
