The Minnesota Vikings have acquired running back Jordan Mason from the San Francisco 49ers.
Details of the Trade
In exchange for Jordan Mason, the Vikings are sending a 2026 sixth-round pick, which they received from the Ed Ingram trade, and are also swapping picks with the 49ers in this year’s draft. The Vikings will send their pick (#160) to the 49ers, while the 49ers will send their pick (#187) to the Vikings.
Additionally, Mason has agreed to a two-year, $7 million fully guaranteed contract with the Vikings, with the potential to earn up to $12 million in incentives.

The Vikings got a close look at Mason’s abilities in Week 2 of last season, when their typically strong run defense allowed him to rush for 100 yards on 20 carries (5.0 average), including 69 yards after contact.
This performance was in line with Mason’s season overall, as he finished with a 5.2 yards per carry average and a 5.3 career average. Last season, he ranked 7th in yards after contact per carry, surpassing backs like Saquon Barkley, Jahmyr Gibbs, and Bijan Robinson.
Mason was a backup to Christian McCaffrey in San Francisco but got his chance to start when McCaffrey was injured early in the season and seized the opportunity. However, Mason later injured his shoulder and missed some time, and with McCaffrey’s return, Mason’s role was reduced. He ended the season on injured reserve due to a high ankle sprain.
After going undrafted in 2022, Mason made the 49ers roster as a special teamer, but when given opportunities at running back, he impressed, culminating in a breakout year.
Now, Mason has the chance to take on an even larger role with the Vikings, where he will rotate with Aaron Jones. The two are similar running backs, though Mason is about 15 pounds heavier than Jones. Mason predominantly ran a zone scheme in San Francisco.
