According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, the Detroit Lions are signing tight end Kenny Yeboah to a one-year contract.
Yeboah, who has spent four years in the NFL after playing college football at Temple and Ole Miss, went undrafted in 2021 and has been with the New York Jets throughout his career. During that time, he has appeared in 33 games, starting two. Despite playing over 300 offensive snaps, Yeboah has recorded just nine receptions for 111 yards and one touchdown. However, he made a memorable preseason Hail Mary catch in his rookie year.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 250 pounds, Yeboah is more suited to a blocking tight end role, which aligns with his usage in New York. In 2024, out of 106 offensive snaps, 88 were spent as an inline tight end rather than in the slot or backfield. Additionally, Yeboah has been a regular contributor on special teams, surpassing 100 snaps each season.
The Lions are currently in need of tight end depth. Before this signing, they had only Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright under contract. Former draft pick James Mitchell joined the Panthers in January, and Shane Zylstra remains an unrestricted free agent. It’s likely the Lions will sign additional tight ends before the offseason ends.
