With Justin Fields set to join the Jets and Sam Darnold likely to sign with the Seahawks, the Steelers have limited veteran quarterback options.
The Steelers began discussions with quarterback Aaron Rodgers several days ago, and with increasing signs that Fields would be departing, the talks have intensified.
According to a source familiar with the situation, the Steelers and Rodgers may reach an agreement by Tuesday. However, he won’t be able to sign until Wednesday, when the Jets release him.
The Giants could still make a play for Rodgers, particularly if they offer him a more lucrative deal, which might tempt him to stay in New York.
A key factor is Rodgers’s desire to play for two more years. If he chooses the Giants and they fail to make the playoffs in 2025, co-owner John Mara could overhaul the team in 2026, which could lead to the same decision made by the other New York team this year: parting ways with Rodgers.
In Pittsburgh, Rodgers would be more likely to secure a second season and has a better chance of making it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2022.
