The Pittsburgh Steelers will host Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough for a pre-draft visit on Thursday. Shough, one of the fastest-rising quarterbacks in this draft class, has caught the Steelers’ attention since the Senior Bowl.
ESPN analyst Louis Riddick, who spoke with Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith at the NFL Combine, hinted on Wednesday that the team could be very interested in Shough.
“Does Pittsburgh trade down in the draft and potentially select a quarterback late in the first round? Could Tyler Shough be a perfect fit for this team? He has a strong arm and great mobility. I was talking to Arthur Smith about him at the Combine. Keep an eye on this.”
While Shough may not be viewed as a first-round prospect by the Steelers, he could be a potential pick in their second-round selection.
The Athletic’s Dane Brugler praised Shough’s skills, ranking him as the fourth-best quarterback in this class, just behind Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart. However, Brugler noted that Shough’s rapid rise makes him a “dark horse” candidate to be the third quarterback drafted.
Former ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay also recognized Shough as one of the top four quarterbacks in the class. Overall, Shough’s draft stock is rising, and the NFL might already be ahead of the curve on him.
If the Steelers are targeting a quarterback on Day 2, names like Dart, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, and Ohio State’s Will Howard will be considered, but Shough is positioning himself as a strong contender for the QB3 spot.
