The latest update on Penn State football recruiting is disappointing, as four-star wide receiver Jerquaden Guilford has decided to reopen his recruitment and decommit from the Nittany Lions. This setback is a blow to Penn State’s 2026 recruiting class, coming less than three months after his initial commitment in early December.
Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 170 pounds, Guilford made the announcement on X Friday evening.
With Guilford’s decommitment, Penn State’s recruiting class now includes just two wide receiver commitments: Jahsiear Rogers from Middletown (DE) and Laver Keys from DeMatha Catholic (MD). Overall, the Nittany Lions now have eight commitments in the class.
In his statement, Guilford explained, “After deep discussions with my family, I’ve decided to decommit from Penn State and reopen my recruitment. This was a difficult decision, and I have great respect and gratitude for Coach Franklin, Coach Hagans, and the entire Penn State staff for their belief in me.”
He continued, “I want to take time to carefully consider my options and find a school that aligns with the values my family and I hold. With the changing landscape of college recruiting, I want to make a decision that is as close to perfect as possible for my future.”
Guilford expressed his thanks to Penn State, saying, “I appreciate all the coaches and supporters who have guided me on this journey.”
Since his commitment to Penn State, Guilford has received offers from schools like Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Purdue, Michigan, and Kansas, in addition to his previous offers from Miami, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. As a junior at Northrop High School, he had a strong season, recording 35 catches for 556 yards and three touchdowns.
