Champion Mike Collier has passed away at 71, as confirmed by an obituary published online on Sunday. He died in Maryland, though the cause of death has not been revealed.
Collier was part of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Super Bowl X-winning team in 1975, where they triumphed over the Dallas Cowboys 35-31. He was selected by the Steelers in the 14th round of the 1975 NFL Draft.
A running back from Morgan State in Baltimore, Collier was recognized by Steelers Hall of Fame executive Bill Nunn. Though he played running back, Collier was particularly noted for his skills as a kick returner. He spent two seasons with the Steelers before moving to the Buffalo Bills, where he played for three more years.
By 1979, Collier was no longer in the NFL, but over his career, he accumulated 370 rushing yards on 86 attempts, plus 11 catches for 73 yards. He scored a total of six touchdowns in the league, one of which came during his first game against the Chargers.
