Could the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense become a Penn State reunions? With tight end Pat Freiermuth already on the roster, the Steelers are in need of more offensive talent, and one player who could be a perfect fit is Tampa Bay’s Chris Godwin, now the top wide receiver available after Tee Higgins was franchise-tagged by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team sees the Steelers as a strong match for Godwin. The receiver could secure a large contract in free agency, while Pittsburgh would gain a true top-tier wideout.
“Pairing Godwin with a deep-threat receiver could elevate Pittsburgh’s offense,” Brooke stated. “George Pickens thrives in those situations, but the lack of offensive firepower has allowed defenses to neutralize the Steelers’ No. 1 option, leading to frustration and a lack of explosive plays and scoring.”
Godwin’s season ended early due to a dislocated ankle, but before the injury, he was on track for a career-best year, amassing 576 yards and five touchdowns in just seven games.
The key question is whether Godwin can return to his pre-injury form, but if so, the Steelers would be smart to pursue this superstar wide receiver.
