The Washington Commanders spent the entire season adjusting to life with a potential franchise quarterback who shows all the signs of becoming a superstar.
Jayden Daniels has been the driving force behind Washington’s rise and the main reason the Commanders will soon be expected to contend consistently.
However, it quickly became apparent in the NFC Championship Game that Washington still lags behind teams like the Philadelphia Eagles and other true Super Bowl contenders.
With more cap space than 29 other teams, the Commanders have the chance to sign, trade, and draft their way to building a top-tier roster, led by a superstar quarterback.
Washington made significant improvements to its roster in free agency ahead of the 2024 season, which sets the stage for more bold moves.
As a result, the 33rd Team recommended the Commanders target a major upgrade at receiver by going after Cincinnati Bengals star Tee Higgins.
“The Washington Commanders are entering Year 2 with Jayden Daniels and nearly $100 million in cap space,” wrote Marcus Mosher. “Now is the time to be aggressive, and you can bet they will be this offseason.”
“Tee Higgins is the top player on the market, and the Commanders could easily make him the highest-paid receiver in the league. Pairing Higgins with Terry McLaurin would give Washington the playmakers they need to challenge for the NFC title next season.”
To ensure Daniels’ potential isn’t wasted, improving the passing offense is crucial. Higgins, who posted 911 yards and 10 touchdowns in 12 games, would be a notable upgrade over current boundary receivers Dyami Brown and Noah Brown, both of whom will be free agents in March.
While Higgins might not want to play second fiddle after being in Ja’Marr Chase’s shadow, he could be prioritized over McLaurin while still benefiting from having another talented receiver alongside him.
If there are any doubts, setting the market for receivers could help address those concerns—the Commanders shouldn’t hesitate to spend. If overpaying for a receiver brings them closer to the top, so be it. Nobody will mind Higgins’ salary if he’s celebrating with a Super Bowl ring.
