Former Six-Time Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Predicted To Join Padres for $5 Million
Over the past decade, the Los Angeles Dodgers have seen several talented players depart. While it’s interesting to think about those who’ve left, the team shouldn’t be too disappointed by those decisions. They now boast the best roster in baseball and have the financial resources to replace anyone who leaves. One such player was J.D. Martinez, who spent just one season with the Dodgers. In that time, he earned his sixth All-Star selection, hitting 33 home runs, driving in 103 RBIs, and posting a 136 OPS+. At 37 years old, he plans to play in 2025, and throughout his career, he’s consistently been ready to perform. Ryan Finkelstein from Just Baseball speculated that Martinez might sign a one-year, $5 million contract with the San Diego Padres. Finkelstein noted that if Martinez wants to keep playing for a contender, the Padres could be a fit, as they have a DH opening and limited financial flexibility. With the Padres trying to reduce payroll, if they manage to move some players, adding Martinez could be an intriguing option if he still has something left to offer.
