The Las Vegas Raiders have made a new addition to their coaching staff by announcing their latest hire. Pete Carroll turned to the college ranks to find his new offensive coordinator, bringing in Chip Kelly from Ohio State to lead the Raiders’ offense.
Kelly previously served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers in the NFL. His time started off strong, especially with the memorable seven-touchdown game from Nick Foles, but things soured when he made controversial trades and went 2-14 with the 49ers.
Afterward, Kelly returned to UCLA, where he had some success and helped rebuild the program. He then moved to Ohio State as offensive coordinator, playing a key role in their 2024 national championship win. This success could explain why Carroll decided to bring him back to the NFL.
With Kelly now part of the staff, the Raiders are ready to focus on building for the 2025 season. Not being the head coach might give Kelly the opportunity to focus on creating an effective offensive scheme in the NFL. Kliff Kingsbury is an example of a coach who thrived as an offensive coordinator rather than a head coach, and the Raiders will be hoping for a similar outcome with Kelly in the role.
