After falling short once again against the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship, the Buffalo Bills are left reeling and now must face another long offseason. It’s all smiles in Kansas City, while Buffalo fans are stuck in misery and gloom.
The NFL waits for no one, therefore the Bills have already began making adjustments to their roster and coaching staff. One coach quit earlier this week and lots more movements are expected in the coming weeks.
It’s also the time of year when Buffalo extends reserve/future contracts to players on their practice squad. They offered contracts to several men, yet the Bills also opted to cut relations with six players immediately after the catastrophic loss. Once again, the Chiefs are destroying aspirations.
The Bills signed seven players to reserve/futures contracts initially but have now signed an additional four. However, they let the contracts expire for six guys: DT Eli Ankou, C/G Will Clapp, S Kareem Jackson, DE Kingsley Jonathan, LB Tyreek Maddox-Williams, and DE Casey Toohill.
Additionally, renowned veteran S Micah Hyde announced his retirement. Admittedly, none of those players were expected to play a substantial part for the squad. It is usual for NFL teams to release a few practice squad members after the Super Bowl, and the Chiefs are likely to do the same.
Because they are still playing, Kansas City has time until the front office and coaching staff must make such judgments. The Chiefs face a tough offseason with many important free agents, including G Trey Smith and MLB Nick Bolton. This team will look different in 2025, but they still have one more game together before making those difficult decisions.
Kansas City is a 1.5-point favorite over the Philadelphia Eagles at FanDuel Sportsbook. The Bills will be trapped at home, watching, and hoping that the Chiefs will give them something to be upset about.
