Mitch Holthus, the voice of the Chiefs, responded to these complaints by pointing out that during the regular season, Kansas City ranked 17th in the percentage of scoring drives that benefited from penalties. He highlighted that Buffalo, in contrast, had 33% of its scoring drives aided by penalties for a first down, a much higher figure. Holthus emphasized that such penalties were a league-wide issue, not something exclusive to the Chiefs.
Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, also addressed the officiating complaints on social media, sharing the message to set the record straight. Meanwhile, Patrick Mahomes defended his team’s success, crediting it not to any officiating assistance, but to the collective effort of the entire roster. “This team’s been special because it’s been everybody,” Mahomes said. He emphasized that throughout the season, different players made crucial plays at key moments, whether on offense, defense, or special teams. Mahomes expressed pride in how the team has come together and hopes they can finish the season with a victory in the Super Bowl.
