The San Diego Padres reached the postseason for the first time since 2022, finishing 93-69 and second in the National League West.
Despite having a talented squad, the Padres were eliminated by the rival Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Division Series.
The Padres have not made any significant acquisitions this summer, but they have lost two crucial players: bullpen pitcher Tanner Scott and outfielder Jurickson Profar.
However, the Padres may be on the verge of making a major deal, as two key players are allegedly on the trading block.
“Dylan Cease and Michael King are in play on the trade market,” MLB Network stated on X.
The Padres appear to be facing salary concerns, which could explain why a major deal is in the works.
Cease pitched five seasons with the Chicago White Sox before joining the Padres in 2024.
Last season, Cease started 33 games, going 14-11 with a 3.47 ERA and 224 strikeouts in 189.1 innings thrown.
King spent five seasons with the New York Yankees before joining the Padres in 2024 via the Juan Soto trade.
Last season, King made 30 starts and went 13-9 with a 2.95 ERA and 201 strikeouts in 173.2 innings thrown.
Both pitchers were incredibly valuable to the Padres in 2024, but they may be moving away soon.
