The Las Vegas Raiders are in urgent need of a quarterback, but most 2025 NFL mock drafts have the top two quarterbacks being selected well before the Raiders pick at No. 6. However, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler suggests that Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders could still be available for them at that spot.
“There are a lot of varying opinions on Sanders, and it will be interesting to see if those views shift as the draft process progresses and coaches get involved,” Brugler writes.
“But with Mark Davis and Tom Brady playing significant roles in this decision, it’s hard to imagine the Raiders passing on Sanders — though ideally, the new head coach and general manager will also have input.”
As of January 2025, the consensus in mock drafts is that Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward are the top quarterback prospects, expected to be taken within the first two or three picks, with teams like the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and New York Giants all in need of new quarterbacks.
In this particular mock, while the Titans select Ward, the Browns strengthen their already formidable pass rush by picking Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter, and the Giants choose Travis Hunter, Sanders’ Heisman-winning teammate.
After those selections, the New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars are next, but neither team needs a quarterback, as both already have their starters in Drake Maye and Trevor Lawrence. However, these two teams could present a threat to the Raiders by potentially trading back to a QB-needy team if Sanders is still available.
Sanders, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, who coached him both at Colorado and previously at Jackson State, had an outstanding season. The 6-foot-2, 215-pound quarterback led the Big 12 in several categories, including completions (353), completion percentage (74.0%), passing yards (4,134), passing touchdowns (37), yards per attempt (8.7), air yards per attempt (9.27), yards per game (318.0), and quarterback rating (168.2).
