If you haven’t heard anything about the Chicago Bears – and I don’t blame you – let me quickly catch you up: they hired Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as their next head coach this week.
Johnson was *the* candidate of this year’s coaching cycle, and the Bears did well to once again win the offseason by signing him to what is apparently a massive contract. They’ll now match a bright, offensive-minded coach with a promising young quarterback, a combination that has never failed them in the past and will certainly not fail them again.

Johnson was officially announced in a press conference on Wednesday, which went pretty much as expected. There were a lot of fantastic soundbites, some lofty promises, and two-dozen random suits presiding over the proceedings. Johnson, like every previous Bears coach in history, was contractually compelled to take a shot at the Packers during his first press conference, and he did not back down from the assignment.
When it comes to coaching in the NFC North, Johnson outlined a Packers move that will almost certainly not be repeated on Packers Twitter until next season.

“I wanted to stay in this division,” Johnson explained. “I understand this is the toughest division in football right now. Three clubs made the playoffs this season. I have a great deal of respect for the league’s coaches and players, having competed against them for the past six years. Daniel Campbell and Kevin O’Connell? As the season comes to a close, there are two candidates for Coach of the Year. And to be honest, I adored beating Matt LaFleur twice a year.”
Whatever you say, guy. I am all for Bears coaches talking the talk. Nothing is funnier than repeating cringey Bears coach remarks after another five-win season, so I’m glad Johnson got ahead of the game and already set 2025’s go-to soundbite. His reputation as the most prepared person in the room definitely precedes him.
The Chicago Bears are the best at getting their fans excited about games that are eight months away. It’s a new day in Chicago, but certain traditions will never die.
