he Red Sox still need relief pitching help, and MLB’s bullpen market lost probably its finest player Sunday.
Tanner Scott, who was said to be of interest to Boston, allegedly will join the reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers on a four-year contract. Scott, a 2024 All-Star, may have helped solidify the Red Sox bullpen, possibly even as a lights-out closer.
So, where do Craig Breslow and colleagues go from here? Shortly after the Scott news came, MassLive’s Chris Cotillo predicted how Boston’s relief corps would improve.
“I’m gonna make a prediction that the Sox land either (Carlo) Estévez, (Kirby) Yates, (David) Robertson, (Tommy) Kahnle or (Kyle) Finnegan,” Cotillo wrote in response to X.
It’s unclear how popular those pitchers are with Red Sox executives. However, Cotillo said that offering a short-term contract with a high average yearly value to Estevez, Yates, Roberton, or Kahnle “would make a lot of sense in an effort to add a veteran righty to a pretty strong group.”

Boston could also want to trade for relief pitchers. And, if the Red Sox are already talking to the Cardinals about Nolan Arenado, they might want to inquire about another star in St. Louis.
